Paris Art

After spending quite a few months in a big city, it is quite probable, I’m sure you’d agree, that you will begin to feel quite contaminated by the hustle and bustle of the city. This was certainly the case for me when I moved to Paris for six months last year! Even though Paris is a wonderful and enchanting city, full of culture and excitement, there were times when I just needed to leave the busy streets for a tranquil green heaven. This is why I decided to write about my three favourite get-away spots that helped me to keep sane in a very much crazy city. Paris accommodation looking over a green space is very rare as most apartments Paris and Paris hotels overlook each other or the street.

Jardin d’Acclimatation

The ‘Jardin d’Acclimatation’ is by far my favourite place to relax in. You do have to pay 2.70eurs to get in, but it is really worth it. The park is a beautifully matured green heaven, with plenty of sneaky hide-aways despite it being quite a popular tourist attraction. Do not underestimate the relaxation potential of this park; due to its huge size, there is both plenty of space to relax in and for the many activities the area holds host to. There are bumper cars, go-karts, pony and camel rides, a puppet theatre, a distorting mirrors house and even a zoo, so there really isn’t much that you can’t do here. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the park puts on special events for children in cooperation with the Asterix-themed Gaulish Village and the Barbar the elephant museum. However, I rarely took part in all of these special activities and just took advantage of the rare discovery that is peace and quiet in Paris.

Jardins de Luxembourg

The Jardins of Luxembourg is a lovely spot to go along to and read a book while relaxing by one of the many fountains and ponds. I spent many a days siting on one of the marble benches, doing nothing in particular. Be careful though, as you might very well get some delusions of grandeur while here; the gardens are set around the old palace and resemble the gardens of the queen. For that reason, this is the only place to go if you do not want to see anybody for a couple of hours; hiding is easy as there are plenty of little corners that you will only ever be able to find once.

Jardin des Tuileries
The Jardin des Tuileries is the most perfect area to relax in if you don’t actually want to leave the centre. The garden connects the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde and is therefore a central area in town. These gardens are the easiest gardens to get to due to their central location and are more of an area to take a stroll in rather than to sit down, although there are many benches quite suitable for people watching, something I love doing. This park also houses the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume and the Musée de l’Orangerie where you can find Monet’s famous Water Lilly painting.
