Don’t underestimate your company’s need for high quality business computer security systems. Everyone would like to think they are immune to theft, but the truth is that at some point we all make mistakes that leave us vulnerable to the theft of both sensitive information and valuable hardware.

Don’t put the life of your company on the line by trying to save a few dollars on security. PC security systems are readily available and computer security hardware is easier than ever to install. If they encounter any kind of a barrier when they scope you as a victim, the chances are pretty good that they will just move on.

Laptop computers are by their very nature prone to theft. The same portability that allows us to take them around the world also makes laptops easy to steal. While it is ultimately up to your vigilance to protect your laptop during transit, once you reach your destination you will appreciate the convenience and safety of computer security hardware.

The most common PC security systems for laptops involve one or more heavy duty chains or cables. The cable is designed to be snaked around or through a table leg or any other fixed object and padlocked. The other choice is a lockdown system similar to those that are sold for desktop computers.

The lockdown system is the most secure but is not especially portable. However, a lockdown system is an excellent choice for students in college dorms or others who keep their laptops primarily in one location.

The lockdown style computer security systems are perfect for desktop computers. In this type of system, the computer is encased in a heavy metal (often steel) construction that is then mounted to the computer desk.

Computer security hardware is available for peripherals as well. While no system can completely guarantee that your computer will not be stolen, thieves tend to go after things that are easy to steal. A lockdown computer security system will make your computer much less attractive to a would-be thief.

Computer security systems are not just limited to hardware options. In addition to protecting the hardware, it is important that you protect your data as well. Data computer security is important as well.

Standard programs such as antivirus software are essential, but may not be enough. Depending on the sensitivity of data contained on your system and your reliance on the internet, you may need to consider a more complete network security system. More advanced data computer security systems solutions are available and may be appropriate, particularly if you manage a large network.

Make sure that you are following basic behavioral solutions to the problem of data theft. Assign separate profiles to everyone who uses your computer and give administrator privileges only to those who require them.

Make a habit of logging off whenever you leave your computer and encourage others to do so as well. Do not leave password hints lying around near the computer. Use encryption settings and passwords on wireless networks as well. Simply changing a few basic behaviors can dramatically lower your risk of identity or data theft.

Unfortunately, the computer science minds that are developing invasive software are always working to stay one step ahead of the latest data computer security systems. There are no guarantees that you will never fall victim to the problem of data theft. However, advancements in computer security systems are combating the issue. You should always have back up files of any information that is essential to your company’s survival.
