You can go for a walk along the 2 0.5 miles of nature trails and see the wonderful flowers and plants that line the way.
The park was first a dairy farm but was acquired and is now managed by the town of Ansonia for the point of training folk of the excitement of nature. The 104 acres are crammed with the wonders that make the countryside such apleasant place to spend a day or longer. Here you can spend a while walking along the streams that divide the property or merely sit by the two acre pool and relax with the sound of the water and the ripples the wind makes across the pool. Take a hike through the grasslands and visit the upland swamp to see how many of the new england flora and fauna you can identify. When you realize that you don’t know that many of them you’ll wish to take part in the educational opportunities offered thru the visitor center. They offer nature-oriented classed for college age children on weekdays and for the adults or for families they offer classes on the weekends and in the evening.
A part of the park has been dedicated to recreational fields to add to the use of the facilities. There are soccer fields, baseball fields and softball fields that are employed by everyone in the community. There’s also land set aside for community gardening which supplies fresh goods for those that take part as well as permits folk to share ideas and stories about gardening with others from the community. It’s a good way to meet up with something beneficial to everyone.
Another part of the park that may please all parents of littler people is the playscape. Here they can run, climb and play with other kids of their own age and wear out some of the energy they have had while at home!
The Visitor Center is open from 9-5 daily with the exception of major holidays but even if they aren’t there, the garden will continue to be worth taking a jiffy to see. The park itself is open common-or-garden from sunrise to sunset. The park is free to everyone and located at 10 Deerfield Road which is on the easterly side of Ansonia in New Haven County, near the Woodbridge town border. Come out and spend a while on your Connecticut vacation to enjoy nature and take five from driving, just enjoy a day in the park.
