You’ve booked your flights, you’ve got your apartment (apartamentos Berlin) sorted, and you’ve even decided which monuments you’ll be visiting first. What you’re even more certain about is that you’re definitely going to be eating a LOT of their delicious food. But what happens when you get there and realise that you don’t understand a single word of the menu because you don’t speak any German and its not all frankfurters and beer. So here goes, a list of all of the things you will need to know whether your budget accommodates 5 star dining or if your wallet only stretches as far as a Maccy D’s.

If you need an extra seat around your table, instead of sneakily trying to get to the table first to avoid that embarrassing ‘is this seat taken?’, they say ‘yes’ so you move away, then to realise that they mean ‘yes, you can take it’ moment, you might like to try asking in German at the table next door:

For meal times, it’s usually good to know how to say the basics like breakfast, ‘Frühstück’, lunch, ‘Mittagessen’ and dinner, ‘Abendessen’. For inbetweens such as sacks and appetisers, you’d do well to learn ‘Imbiss’ and ‘Vorspeise’.

For meat, a good German favourite, the following might come in handy:

Boulette – Meatball
Gans – Goose
Huhn/Hühnerfleisch – Chicken
Ente – Duck
Lamm – Lamb
Rindfleisch – Beef
Schinken – Ham
And obviously the most important, Wurst – Sausage

Well, by far the most important think to be able to order when in Germany are the drinks, or the Getränke, and in particular the bier (no, I didn’t spell it wrong, it’s just very close to the English). If mulled wine is more your kind of thing, then be sure to order some Glühwein, which comes in all varieties and flavours. When you need a break from the alcohol, you might like to order some kaffee, mineralwasser, or orangensaft (that’s coffee, mineral water and orange juice to you and me).

And finally, although no one really likes this part, to pay, it might be useful to ask for the bill: Bezanhlen, bitte.

So there you have it; you can now ask for your table, order your dinks and your food and even ask for the bill, all in German. Bet you’re glad you popped on here today aren’t you. The Valley of Fire is just 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas and is Nevada’s biggest and oldest state park. The park offers visitors an incredible glimpse into the beauty of the Mojave Desert. With its red rocks and ancient trees, you will be stunned by the silence and beauty this spot offers.

Camping, hiking and picnicking are all available. If you’re camping in the winter, remember that temperatures can drop to freezing throughout the days, so be prepared. All the campsites at the Valley of Fire state park are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Echo Canyon State Park

Though small, this is one of the most popular state parks in Nevada. Located about 12 miles from Pioche, Echo Canyon State Park spans 65 acres and offers camping, picnicking facilities, a boat launch, nature tours, fishing and hiking trails.

Because of its desert reservoir, the area attracts numerous birds and other wildlife, making it a great spot to do a photography safari of the Nevada desert. The climate in the area is arid and hot - however, snow can be expected during the winter months.

Saguaro National Park, Arizona. Saguaro National Park is an outstanding place to experience and explore the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Visitors can enjoy the Park in a variety of ways. There are scenic drives, hiking trails, horseback riding trails, plus biking and backcountry camping opportunities.

As you plan your visit to Saguaro National Park, you will notice it contains two districts. East of the city of Tucson is the Rincon Mountain District. This part of the Park features high elevations and many trails. You can obtain maps and information about spending time in the Rincon Mountain District at the Saguaro East Visitor’s Center.

The western district of Saguaro National park is located to the west of Tucson. This district is known as the Tucson Mountain District, and it is lower in elevation than the Park’s eastern district. It also features a much denser saguaro forest.

A Cornish Walk: A Simple Tourist Activity, But An Absolute Must For An English Holiday

Cornwall has always been a favourite holiday destination and its dramatic coastline, picturesque villages, vibrant culture and sumptuous cuisine. For those visitors who have travelled to the region, the benefits of a Cornish holiday need no explaining, but for our international friends, who have yet to explore outside of London, a visit to Cornwall will give you a very different taste of English life.

Parts of the walk between St Agnes and the Jericho Valley have been trodden so often by my sturdy boots, that they practically know their own way. It’s one of my favourite stretches of coastal path for its spectacular views across the turquoise waters to the huge stretch of beach at Penhale

St Agnes was once a busy centre of mining activity, the relics of which are dotted all around this walk. The village is well equipped for walkers, with some beautiful, quintessentially English cottages and hotels, and some superb restaurants which take advantage of Cornwall’s fantastic local produce.

On this walk you’ll first head southwards on the coast path up a fairly steep climb away from the picturesque Trevaunance Cove. Just above the beach if you peer down at low tide you’ll see the scattered stones of the former harbour walls, deposited when storms swept it away in 1915/16. At a higher tide with a gentle swell you may see one or two of the resident seals putting in an appearance.

Continuing along the coast path you’ll be rewarded with amazing views. You’ll pass a number of capped mine shafts and a couple of benches where you can enjoy the view of Bawden Rocks, also known as Man and His Man. Every summer daring swimmers from the village swim the mile out to this rock and back.

After about half a mile along the coast path you head inland and up towards the Beacon, the 192 metre high hill that overlooks St Agnes. Legend has it that a giant called Bolster could stand with one foot on The Beacon and the other on Carn Brea six miles away. If you fancy a detour then trek up it for some fantastic views from Padstow in the north, to the clay country and south to St Ives.

Otherwise the route skirts the bottom of the Beacon, and then follows a path to St Agnes village. Here locals bustling about their day-to-day business will be brushing shoulders with day-trippers and holiday makers. Stop for a browse around some of the fascinating arts and crafts galleries, or pause for a coffee outside the St Agnes Hotel. If you feel like staying overnight, there is some lovely holiday accommodation in the area, as well as a very high standard of local pubs and restaurants.

Tourist Activity and Stippy-Stappy

Next you’ll see the quirky row of sea captain’s cottages known as Stippy-Stappy, then follow the road for a short time before you descend off left into Trevellas Combe. Following a clear trickling stream through woodland, you’ll pass the isolated Jericho Cottage, once owned by renowned Cornish artist John Opie. Near here, we got a fright when a grass snake slithered across the path in front of us.

You emerge out of the valley at Blue Hills Tin Streams, where you can see a working water wheel and tin smelting in the traditional way. Then perhaps stop at Trevellas beach for a paddle. Head up the steep hill to the left of the beach. It’s a toughie this one, but there’s a strategically placed bench half way up!

You can get round this walk in a speedy two and half hours, but I think you should allow about four. In that time you’ll have journeyed through centuries of life in this colourful part of Cornwall and should go home with a real taste of how this friendly community has evolved in that time.

For Your Next Vacation Try Puerto Vallarta

Did you know that Puerto Vallarta is tucked away in the middle of the Bay of Banderas, in the Mexican pacific coast? There you will find a gorgeous tourist town rapidly becoming one of the most popular holiday spots in the world. I didn’t know that Puerto Vallarta is reported to be the most repeated holiday destinations on earth. By that, they mean that more people return here for a second, third or more holidays than any other place they go.

Puerto Vallarta is alive with a buzz of international tourism, drawing huge numbers from the US and Canada as well as a growing European influx. Entering from the north you pass the airport and right away you see Plaza Marina; the first of many plazas you will encounter with many high end furniture stores, art galleries and chain restaurants. The first area of interest you will come across is the Marina. The area got its name, most obviously because it is built around docking facilities for thousands of boats of all descriptions from canoes, kayaks and jets skis to tour boats and multi-million dollar yachts. You will find all types of activities in this area. Check out the shopping and restaurants available at dock side and look the area up on the internet for some great resorts that make for a perfect all inclusive holidays if that is your style. Continuing along highway 200, now narrowed to the main street, you enter the Hotel Zone. This area of course is where you find a lot of hotels, many familiar American names and some Puerto Vallarta Vacation. The beach here is gorgeous and you will find some great dining.

Cross over the bridge and you enter Centro. Here you will find shops too multiple to describe… jewelry shops, art galleries, clothing stores, more time share offers than you can believe, souvenir shops by the score, restaurants with just about any kind of food you taste buds desire. This is the most diverse area of town. On the right you will find the ocean with terrific views from one tip of the bay to the other while on the left the street is lined with shops. Check out the wonderful collection of statues all crafted from bronze, stone and concrete that adorns the wide sidewalk known as the Malecon. These wonderful works of art were all donated by local artisans to help renew and beautify this area after the hurricane of 2001, and indeed it has been wonderfully restored. At the south end of the Malecon you will find crafts, arts, snacks, music, street performers and in general warm hospitality offered up by the local merchants. Meander the side streets for hours and you will find delightful little discoveries guaranteed to satisfy your hunt for an unusual gift. If you get a chance take in the Art Walk, happening every Wednesday, a casual stroll of the many art galleries in this area complete with snacks and a drink offered at participating galleries. Just look for an Art Walk flyer, you will find them at shops all over this area.

Continuing south from the Malecon you will cross another bridge, over the River Cuale into Zona Romantica. I guess you could call Centro and The Malecon the center of this city. Zona Romantica is the heart, the magic, if you have not by now fallen in love with this town Zona Romantica will win you over. Here you can find the best Villas In Puerto Vallarta!. Taste the flavors of Mexico at a variety of eateries, from roadside vendors where you can eat for a couple dollars to local Cenadurias, all the way up to five star North American style fine dining experiences on the beach. Don’t be afraid to explore here, both on a culinary level and on a cultural level. Try some local dishes like pozole, molcajete, fried cheese tacos, mahi mahi, it’s all delicious. Let one of the small sidewalk cafes or bars lure you in with offerings of great service, fabulous food and just a plain magical experience.

Above Zona Romantica on the hillside you will find lots of foreign influence again with beautiful villas and condos owned primarily by foreigners and ex patriots most of which can be rented.

Puerto Vallarta is no longer just a cute little Mexican town. It has grown into a diverse, culturally rich tourist destination making its mark proudly on the map.
