Tips On Choosing A Hi-def Tv Or Hdtv
Thursday, May 29th, 2008 by wwwPlasma, LCD[/c] or DLP?
Now that you’ve made the decision to create a home theater room for the enjoyment of your family, you have some critical decisions to make. The first of which revolves around the centerpiece of your new space: Hi-Def Television or HDTV.
Currently, there are three main types of Hi-Def Television available: plasma, LCD and DLP.
DLP
Let’s begin with the least expensive, the DLP. DLP stands for Digital Light Processing, and is actually a rear projection TV. In DLP projectors, the image is created by a matrix of tiny mirrors, with each mirror representing one pixel on the screen. Though less expensive than other hi-def choices, this technology can still deliver 1080p resolution - the highest currently available.
While DLP televisions weigh approximately the same as the other hi-def TV options, they are quite a bit thicker (about 15-20 inches) and are not designed to be wall-mounted as of yet, though that may change in the near future.
Other minor drawbacks include the possibility of bothersome fan noise in some models, and since the technology is more “mechanical” than plasma and LCD, there may be a higher incidence of breakdowns. Projection televisions of any type also are inherently saddled with poorer viewing angles than the direct view sets, and color resolution may not be as distinct.
LCD
At a decidedly higher price point is the next type of set to consider: Liquid Crystal Diode televisions, also known as LCD.
LCD televisions feature opposing “polarized” panels that sandwich a thin liquid-crystal gel. That gel is divided into individual pixels, each of which can be darkened or lightened according to how much measured voltage is passed through it - the more voltage, the darker the pixel. Since a small amount of light always leaks through the gel, a true black screen is extremely hard for an LCD television to achieve, but advances in LCD technology have put these TVs on an almost equal footing with plasma.
LCD computer monitors, because of their light weight and small footprint, quickly became the technology of choice in the industry. The smaller screen sizes created sharp LCD images, so small-screen TVs became LCD’s niche. But with recent technological advances screen size has grown larger and larger while sustaining contrast, and the previously poor viewing angles have become on par with plasma televisions can offer. Hi-Def LCD televisions are now a viable competitor to plasma televisions on the home entertainment field.
Plasma
Built in a similar manner to an LCD TV, in that a sandwich is created by two panels of glass, the material between the two panels is not a liquid gel, but rather a gas.
Though the gap is narrowing, plasma TVs generally exhibit greater brightness and sharper contrast then their rivals - especially at larger screen sizes. Plasma sets can be as thin as 4 inches, and have conveniently wide viewing angles.
The usable lifespan of a plasma TV is 60,000 hours - which would allow you to watch TV for 6 hours a day for 27 years. Hi-Def plasma televisions exhibit contrast ratios of 30,000:1, a significant advantage over competing technologies. Although screen “burn-in” has been an issue in the past, technological advances have significantly lowered the incidence of this drawback.
How to Choose
As with most of the features of your new home entertainment center, in the long run the amount of money at your disposal will be the biggest factor in which television you ultimately choose. You would need to itemize the things you need to purchase, and prioritize it.
Consumers who value high fidelity sound may decide to spend more money on a hi-tech surround sound system; others might decide to turn over the lion’s share of the budget to the designer. But no matter which option you choose, rest easy knowing that every option open to you are far better than to what was available even a decade ago.

Friday, April 25th, 2008 by wwwFrom the New York Times: Somewhere in between the parade of busty women in low-cut gold lamé minidresses and contestants spinning the wheel, George Bush made a star turn.
“I’m thrilled to be on ‘Deal or No Deal’ with you tonight,” Mr. Bush said from a giant screen in a cameo taped for the Monday episode of one of NBC’s most popular prime-time shows. The president paused a beat. Elitism is to the 2008 campaign as communism was to 1950s politics: a career breaker. The “Deal or No Deal” contestant Mr. Bush rooted for, Joe Kobes, is a decorated Army captain who served three tours in Iraq. Timing, however, matters. (Mrs. McCain said that the man she calls “Johnny-Boy” loves horticulture and cooking and contrary to news reports does not have a “temper” problem.)
videos
Michelle Obama, who last week stood up for her husband’s common touch on “The Colbert Report,” tried to prove it by taping a segment of “Rachael Ray” alongside Barack Obama on Monday. Hillary Rodham Clinton performed a self-mocking skit on “The Colbert Report” last week (not to be confused with her self-mocking skit on “Saturday Night Live,” on March 1) and agreed to appear on “Larry King Live” on CNN on Monday night. Mr. Obama accepted a seat, for the third time, on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.”
The novelty of politicians showing their lighter side on national television has begun to weigh heavily on the campaign season. It’s hard to recall how unusual it was to see Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas playing the sax on “The Arsenio Hall Show” in 1992 or Mr. Bush revealing his favorite sandwich (peanut butter and jelly on white bread) on “Oprah” during the 2000 campaign. Mr. McCain had a walk-on part on the Fox drama “24” in 2006, and played himself as a wedding guest in the 2005 film comedy “Wedding Crashers.”
news
In politics as in show business too many appearances can weaken their value: all three presidential candidates taped appeals for donations for a special star-studded episode of “American Idol” this month and all three were bumped by bigger stars (Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus) and relegated to the next night.
downloads
Satirical programs like “The Daily Show” send up politicians, but they increasingly invite politicians to send themselves up on their dime; too much collusion blunts the satire and turns even the most irreverent, iconoclastic television personalities into insiders.

The Advent Of Hd Television
Monday, April 21st, 2008 by wwwHigh Definition TV has many advantages over over traditional analog television. High Definition Television has excellent digital superiority, crisp detail, progressive scanning, digital audio, a wider viewing area and better quality DVD playback.
The FCC is pushing broadcasters, electronic manufacturers, and consumers to make a complete switch to High Definition Television by 2006. Many are ready for the change.
Increasingly, customers are getting connected enabling more people to buy the sets. In addition to the cost of the actual television, the price of enhanced cable or satellite service must be considered before getting connected to HDTV.
High Definition TV does have its benefits besides a better picture resolution. HDTV has none of the problems caused by a traditional analog broadcast. There is no snow from weak signals, no double images from ghosting and no picture sparkles caused by impulse noise.
Furthermore, High Definition TV offers viewers the ultimate in viewing experience when connected to a surround sound system. The wide-screens offered by HDTV and the complete audio are just like seeing a movie in the cinema. There is no part of the viewing area cut off at the top or bottom when using HDTV.
To get connected in the world of High Definition Television, you must first purchase an HDTV-ready or an HDTV capable television. There are several to choose from. Rear projection, plasma and LCD are all types of High Definition Television. When a TV set is labeled as HDTV-ready, that means the TV set has an HDTV tuner built in. This enables the TV set to get over-the-air high definition signals from local networks. HDTV-capable means that the TV set is able to receive high definition signals, but only with the use of an HDTV converter box that is available from the cable or satellite company, or a digital tuner and over-the-air antenna. A converter box usually costs between $5 and $10 per month, or some are available for purchase for several hundred dollars.
The last and probably the most important step of getting connected in high definition will be to watch a broadcast in High Definition Television. Major networks have some programming in high definition, but many do not. High definition programming will be separate channels from the standard non-high definition channels. It is important to know whether or not the channel and programming you are interested in are offered in high definition.

The Advantages Of Buying A High-definition Television
Thursday, April 17th, 2008 by wwwFirst and foremost, allow the World Wide Web teach you in looking for and locating the most excellent HDTV out there; the fact that you can clearly search at the comfortable peace of your apartment or place of work makes the searching experience more and more fun and also rewarding. HDTV maintains the incredibly in depth panoramic-like view that is being sent by satellite and also cable; talk about experiencing about one hundred percent broadcasting of digital signal with the wonderful HDTV and you will be certainly right.
Lots of people I talked to concur that the main reason why they adore the HDTV is the surround sound; a lot of the broadcasters have the habit of transmitting in HDTV with excellent quality surround sound.
Before buying your HDTV, it’s excellent to know the right type you want as well as what asking price it goes for; it’s possible to ask buddies of yours who have it or search on the Net at review websites; this can preserve you a great deal of capital when you eventually go shopping. $29.99 per month can give you HDTV viewing of 155 channels with DIRECTV subscription.
Numerous people concur that they are able to get less expensive HDTV from wholesale websites; it might be a fine idea to check out this source also when on a quest for less expensive HDTV.
The quality of picture and also sound one enjoys when watching HDTV programs on Personal Computers is, most of the time, incomparable, especially when compared with the alternatives that are found today.
At the last, I don’t suggest purchasing your HDTV from the first Internet store you find; it’s pertinent to evaluate as many as you can to obtain the HDTV at inexpensive price.

What High Definition Has To Offer The Consumer
Friday, March 7th, 2008 by wwwWhat with the latest move from Warner Brothers the Blu-ray format now is in possession of 70 percent of the high definition market, and most analytics would have made the conclusion that this decision would decide the match once and for all in Sony’s favor. However, as Paramount answered by stating they will stick will stick with hd-dvd the last act in this drama has yet to come.
The company behind the hd-dvd format, Toshiba, is worried about how things are turning out, and so they should be but states that they will continue their struggle against the blue laser for the time being.

Now that you have spent all that cash on a high definition television, you are right to be wondering whether or not you should spend the extra money each month to purchase the high definition channels that your cable or satellite TV provider is offering. Basically, if you have spent the money to buy a high definition television, you should by all means invest in the channels as wel. But, if you’re still not convinced, here are three reasons why high definition channels are totally worth the extra money.
Among those reasons one may not be as obvious at first, but once you are used to having it, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. The sound. While the sound is not as loud on high definition channels, it is much clearer.
Even if you have never heard the term DVR, you have likely heard of another, synonymous term - TiVo. As the first company to successfully produce the popular DVR, or digital video recorder, into the homes of many people globally, TiVo has since gone on to create a product that is way more advance compared to its original set top box. The high definition DVR. These are available in a multitude of shapes and sizes and are offered by everyone from the cable company to the satellite providers - but should you get one?
One very good argument to buy a high definition DVR is that such a device allows you to record your favorite shows and then enjoy them for ever more in the same quality that you originally recorded them in.

High Definition Cables And More
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 by wwwIf you have picked up any home entertainment magazine lately, you will know that today it is all “HD this HD that”
Although when it really comes down to it is the same as for older tv:s, this is in many regards a new type of television in its own right, that combines an HDTV tuner and HD-capable display. Also, the shift towards the wide screen formats always used at the cinema is now taken in full. This is the format all movies and television programs of today are being produced in as well.
As far as television broadcasts go, there are three major ways of receiving HD - satellite, terrestrial (UHF) and cable. Not all choices are applicable in all areas
Up until now all things HD have been rather expensive, but as the new dvd-formats are now entering the market full steam prices of the equipment needed is rapidly approaching levels that the mass market can handle.
High definition cables - how much to spend
As always there is a tendency to focus on things that may not be that imporant. For example, some people can’t get the notion that cables for HD-devices needn’t be that expensive - on the contrary, the price does not tell the whole story about a good cable.
Basically, there is one thing that you need to keep in mind - a cable is a cable. There are not too many compelling reasons for you to pay top dollar for high definition cables when you can go out purchase the exact same item at a much lower price. Back in the analog era things where actually different, then a cable could really have a noticeable impact as to what was actually displayed on your screen.
Today the most determining factor is selecting the right type of cable for your device, the one that is on par with the rest of your particular system.
Should you get a high definition camera
When it comes to recording the activities of your children, other important events, and anything else you want to document, an ordinary digital camera has its certain limitations. What most people are looking for is a video camera, the reason for getting the camera in the first placesomething that can capture life as it really happens in full motion, vivid colors and sound. But what is the best video camera? Broadly speaking there are two kinds currently on the market: high or low definition cameras.
For deciding between the two of them, you need to consider what kinds of electronics you previously have in your home. If you are still at the level of watching an old television and are using a very old (10 years+) computer, a HD camera may not be a very sensible purchase. On the other hand, if the rest of your audio/video/computer setup is current, you could really take advantage of a high definition camera.

Battlestar Galactica Season 4
Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 by wwwHow is season 4 looking for Battlestar Galactica? As a true fan of BSG, especially the new series, I am eagerly anticipating the coming season.
At the current time, there is a writers strike going on, and this could affect the upcoming season. I do know that they already have many of the episodes filmed, and it is unknown how many more are already written. Since the 4th season is supposed to be a bit shorter than the other ones, I think we should be alright. Worst case i’m sure Ron Moore can fill out a couple of the final episodes himself.
So what are we looking forward to with the 4th season? Well have you seen any of the previews at all? Baltar has been ferreted away and is being hailed as a savior and healer by his followers, like he is a cult leader. This storyline is certainly going to be interesting.
Starbuck has seen Earth, and somehow knows where it is. However there is a preview with her on the floor screaming that they are all going the wrong direction.
In one crazy scene, First Officer Saul Tigh is in the control room and pointing a pistol at Commander Adamas head. Absolutely crazy I cannot wait to see how that turns out. In fact I cant wait for the season in general, especially Grace Park!
I have always had a fascination with Grace Park and her Boomer and Athena characters. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but some of her acting on the show has been top notch. The actor who does Saul Tigh also is also quite good, but I prefer Grace Park. Some of the first season Boomer storylines on Caprica were amazing, in fact all the Boomer appearances through the first 2 seasons were excellent. I dont think she was given as many good storylines in season 3 and her Athena character, but im hoping that we see alot more of her in season 4.

TVU Player | Find Your Favorite TV Episodes or Television Networks
Monday, August 27th, 2007 by wwwThe volatility of relationships between satellite and cable television providers and Television Channels often causes channels to be dropped from the lineup. That sucks when the channel that is dropped is the home of some of your favorite Television Episodes.
Some TV Shows are available to watch online through the show’s website or video sharing sites. But many are not. In that case, the TVU Video Player may be the solution to your problem. It allows users to broadcast TV Channels so that other users may view them. It’s also free.
While there’s no guarantee that any given TV Channels will be available at any given time, it’s worth one’s while to check and see. There are lots of TV Channels to choose from, so if you don’t find the specific one you’re looking for you’re bound to find something you like.
TVUPlayer is especially useful for finding free sports channels allowing people to find all sorts of sports matches. Football is one very popular sport that people use TVUPlayer to watch online.
It could happen that the powers that be would decide to crack down on the TVUPlayer, its users, or both for airing copyrighted content. But if the survival of file sharing applications is any indication, the TVUPlayer could be around for a while.

How Our KEYWORDCAP% Influences Our Life
Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 by wwwHDTV Televisions are a great way to escape reality. Since so many people believe they have miserable lives, watching television series has become one of the top ways to cope with reality. That is to say it allows us to cope with reality by using mindless entertainment to forget about reality.
When I watch HDTV televisions I know that I sometimes start to feel more optimistic about the world and my own abilities. The laughter from watching a comedy is good for the soul and some doctors claim that laughter releases endorphins which are good for us physically. I don’t know about all of that but there are some shows where the main theme is to introduce a common family issue, exaggerate it to a comical extreme and then resolve the whole issue, all within half an hour (plus commercials). This is definitely not how things work in the real world and anybody looking to escape reality will find just that in these kinds of shows.
Action shows presented in animated television series will also help you feel more powerful. Even an hour long episode can give you the feeling that normal people can do extraordinary things. If you see some guy getting shot at by professional bad guys and then he handles a gun for the first time in his life and resolves all the issues (and gets the girl) all within an hour, then it makes your own problems look smaller and more manageable.
Whatever kind of you watch, the relaxation and release of reality are bound to make you feel better, even if just for a little while.
