I sometimes wonder what is meant by the term professional karaoke. When I looked on the internet for information about professional karaoke I was confronted with reams of information about professional karaoke machines. In another site I received the impression that professional karaoke meant a person who sang karaoke as a career vocation.

So after an hour of fruitlessly searching for information about professional karaoke I gave up and came to the conclusion that professional karaoke was a term coined by various people to mean different things. For instance the people who refer to professional karaoke as being a type of karaoke machinery are quite correct – from their point of view.

The other people who refer to professional karaoke as being an individual who sings karaoke songs on a professional basis are also correct but this is based on their point of view as well. So what is the correct meaning of professional karaoke – well at this point in time I am completely lost and I begin to wade through the terms of karaoke very carefully.

Now if anyone out there can enlighten the rest of us poor mortals about professional karaoke I am sure that they will receive lots of praise. For now we will live with the terms for professional karaoke that we can find. So what you might ask is professional karaoke machines? Well basically these are karaoke machines that will let you enjoy karaoke songs and the low background music.

The main difference between these karaoke machines and other karaoke machines is that these are professional equipment. All this really means is that you will be able to perform various other tasks besides listening to karaoke songs. With professional karaoke systems you can take your karaoke creation to the next higher level.

These types of professional karaoke units include speakers, an amplifier with a very high power outage. You will also find various equipment that will let you mix the different tones and musical notes. These professional karaoke mixers will be able to produce an interesting type of sound mixture.

American Music Awards

Annual awards for the music industry always create a lot of interest and the American Music Awards are one of the most popular. Some awards are voted for by people in the entertainment field but these awards are voted by the public. This is why it is popular with the record buying fans and with the artists themselves.

The awards were instigated by Dick Clark in 1973 and take place in November. The much-loved TV favorite also produces the show every year. The AMAs, as they are sometimes called, has different categories of awards, to reflect different musical genres. American Music Awards are given for Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm and Blues, Adult Contemporary, and Latin. Categories have been added as new musical trends appear, such as Rap/Hip Hop and Alternative. Contemporary Inspirational, a popular form of Christian music, is another category. There is also Favorite Soundtrack, International Artist Award and Favorite Breakthrough Artist.

The recipients receive awards for the Favorite Male, Female, Band or Album. The 2007 show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the popular comic and talk show presenter. People could vote online for the first time. In the Pop/ Rock category, the Favorite Male Artist was Justin Timberlake and the Favorite Female artist was Fergie. Nickleback was voted in the category for Favorite Band, Duo or Group. The American Music Awards are not just about presenting the prizes but putting on a good show for the viewing public. The show always has a number of top artists to perform, across a wide range of musical styles. The 2007 show included music from Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Maroon 5, Rihanna and Duran Duran.

Some artists and groups have had exceptional success at the American Music Awards. Mariah Carey has been nominated the most times for the Pop/Rock section and has won Favorite Female Artist on three occasions. Michael Jackson leads the way in the number of nominations received for a male artist and has won for Favorite Male Artist, Single and Album. The Eagles has been the most successful group and the only one to receive nominations over three decades. They have won twice for Favorite Band and twice in the album category. The albums voted for were Their Greatest Hits 1971 - 1975 and Hell Freezes Over. Other performers to have received many nominations include Madonna, Elton John, Celine Dion and Fleetwood Mac. These awards will continue to be an important part of the musical calendar.

2-track Recording

The least expensive and the easiest is the 2-track recording. This type of recording is either a recording from the board mix that gets recorded directly onto the CD or a room mike mix. Sometimes this 2-track recording is a combination of both a board mix and a room mike mix. Now we did not have anyone to record for us, so we had to set it up for ourselves. If you have to record yourself, you can use either a camcorder or a minidisk player. For both of these pieces of equipment and for the best results, you want to be sure that there is a built in microphone. For the camcorder, you’ll need to “volunteer” a friend to either turn the record button on or off. If you already have the equipment and it doesn’t have a built-in mic, make sure that you have the necessary microphone attachments. For the best results, you will want to place your camcorder on a tripod.

Multitrack Recording

This kind of recording lets you record more than one input microphone at the same time. Multitrack recording is best when you are new and you have several songs that you need to record right away. This is a good type of recording to use if you are trying to release a demo. If your band is more of a live stage band than a studio band, multitrack recording is the way you want to go. If you are going to release a live album, again multitrack recording is the best way to go.
