Learn How To Make You Own Kids Gift Baskets This Christmas Season
Saturday, October 4th, 2008 by wwwI love the Christmas season. My mother has a great deal to do with this. She did many things to make the Christmas season magical as we were growing up. Her goal was not to have us concentrate on getting gifts, but rather to help us feel good about giving to others. The main lesson that I have learned from my mother is that it truly is better to give than to receive. She did this in many ways, but the one that impacted me the most was the Christmas Gift Baskets for Kids project that she did for children of our parish whose families were poor. We were not a rich family by any means, yet mom wanted to help those that were less fortunate than us.
Mom worked on her Christmas gift basket for kids project all year long. She sewed the stockings herself. She made them out of red felt with a white felt cuff. My sisters and I would then embroider different Christmas designs on the baskets. The designs were created by tracing around cookie cutters. Sequins and small beads were then sewn on to further embellish the stockings. Mom would always have the Christmas gift baskets for kids project in mind when she went shopping. She would buy small toys that were on sale. Back in the days when I was growing up people were able to trust each other so mom also included many home made goodies in the stockings. She would make popcorn balls and we would wrap them in waxed paper. She would also make fudge and caramels which were placed in the stockings along with an apple and orange.
The Christmas stocking for kids project was then taken to our parish center and given to the priest. Mom let him determine who would receive them. Mom’s name was never given to a receiving family, and she was never told who received the stockings. It was truly a random acted of kindness. It was not done for personal recognition or gain. The one time that I asked mom about no one knowing that she was doing this her reply to me was that God knows.
I have continued my mother’s tradition of the Christmas Gift Baskets. I have my children help pick out toys. We also still hand make the baskets. We buy treats instead of making them because kids have been warned not to eat things that are not wrapped from a store. I hope my children will continue this tradition when they are on their own.

Develop Your Childs Imaginatin With Books For Kids
Saturday, October 4th, 2008 by wwwI love kids books, and have since I was a little kid myself. From the Little Engine that Could, up through Five Children and It, and beyond, I adore almost all of the literature that I read growing up. There is a freshness to new readers. Although kids often lack the sophistication that adults posses, they more than make up for it with an enthusiasm that is really quite hard to match. When you are reading books for kids, you can capture some of this freshness and fascination, in the straightforward, yet imaginative storytelling that is so important in this kind of writing. This is even more the case if you get to read books for kids to the actual youngsters. That way, you can see them amazed by knits, trains, dragons, and genies, the same way that these things fascinated you yourself when you were that age. It is a truly rewarding experience to be able to see the joys of a young reader, and that is no lie.
I am so passionate about books for kids, that I have been working for a non-profit charity dedicated to bringing the best literature to poor and underprivileged children for the past five years. If is not like my books for children job was the only thing that I could get – far from it. In fact, I had left a really good job in the professional world to bring books for kids to those who need them most. Although it has taken its toll on my lifestyle, and stopped me from enjoying some of the luxuries that I used to have, I would say that it is easily worth it. After all, instead of just working to make money, I get to really spend each day pursuing something that I am truly passionate about. I love books for kids, and I can help some of the young ones love them the same as I do.
Of course, not all books for kids are quite the same. In our charity, we try to bring a good mix of the old and the new. There are some really good books for kids being written right now, and I am quite sure that they will be around for many years to come, but some of the other ones will probably fade away soon. That is why it is so important to bring classic books for kids into the lives of children, as well as the new ones.

Consider Gift Baskets This Fall Season For The Young Children
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 by wwwIf you are considering something different for the holidays of fall then you may want to consider Gift Baskets for Kids this year. These festive arrangements can be bought already assembled or you can make your own. This unique craft will be a hit with kids of all ages.
Many people immediately think that a Halloween gift basket would be a huge arrangement. This kind of item is commonly used for presents and special occasions. However, Halloween gift baskets can come in all sorts of sizes. You can make tiny ones for visiting neighborhood children or you can make that big display for a special family.
One family I have become very close to over the years does not celebrate the Halloween holiday. Instead, the family spends time playing games or they may go out to a movie instead. As the children became more and more aware of the festivities that they were missing I decided to make them Halloween gift baskets.
This project had to be approached very carefully because of the parents’ opposition to many of the themes of the Halloween holiday. Instead of constructing Halloween gift baskets in black and orange I decided to use red and white. I chose these colors for a specific theme.
Instead of making formal Halloween gift baskets, I made night out at the movies baskets. The items I chose included popcorn balls arranged in movie theatre popcorn holders. I added some of their favorite sodas as well as other movie theater treats. Under all of the treats were nice, comfortable fall pajamas for each of the girls.
The girls were thrilled with the night out at the movies theme and they seemed to forget all about missing dress up for the holiday when they found their pajamas. I also made sure to include a fun movie in the Halloween gift baskets as well.
Not everyone celebrates every holiday. I have made many Halloween gift baskets over the years of all shapes and sizes. The night at the movies baskets were just as fun to make and I had a great opportunity to share a little bit of holiday spirit without celebrating the actual holiday.
The other kids in the neighborhood did receive traditional Halloween gift baskets filled with spooky treats and they were thrilled. I was just glad that I could do something a little extra special for my special family as well.

Fire Safety And Precaution
Thursday, September 25th, 2008 by wwwThe most used element in this world is Fire. With fire we can make a lot of things like light, energy, heat, food and combustion. Thus fire became an everyday use at home specially when cooking and putting light during the night. This element both has its advantage and disadvantages and is both very useful and harmful in nature.
A light is created during a chemical reaction that becomes so attractive in our eyes even from a great distance. Out of curiosity we always draw into the light like moths trying to get close to the lamp. Curiosity kills a cat as they say, which is true in many ways like we go to places or do things out of curiosity just to try how they taste and feel without even thinking the dangers and harmful effects of it.
Most kids under the age of five are curious about fire. Often what begins as a natural exploration however can lead to tragedy.
Fire is fast. In less then 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire. Unfortunately most kids don’t think about what could happen. I remember myself playing a magnifying lens and a box of matches when suddenly the box burst into flames and caught my hands on fire fortunately I just got minor burns, blisters and worst bruised ass because my grandma slapped my butt endlessly for using his Folding Reading Glasses as an experiment.
Sometimes kids would play with fire intentionally. This group of children are often classified as ”Pyromaniacs”, children like these has an impulse to deliberately start fires to relieve tension and typically includes gratification or relief afterward.
For safety and precaution you should keep away objects that drives them to do such things such as matches, lighters and High Power Reading Glasses with thick lenses as they may mistakenly use it as another Magnifying Glasses experiment.

Learning Games For Children: What To Look For
Thursday, September 25th, 2008 by wwwIf you have a child that is in the toddler stage and have done any toy shopping, then you probably are aware that there is a huge variety of toddler toys to choose from. Often, it seems that with every new month that goes by there are several new cool games and toys that are targeted to toddlers and helping them develop motor skills and learn coordination. There are so many educational games and toys these days that sometimes it makes it even more difficult to decide which ones you should buy for your youngster.
Many parents are almost obsessed about buying the right educational toys for their toddlers, or they want to buy the latest “toy of the year” that has earned some kind of award for top developmental or educational toy. But, in many cases, the learning games for kids that win all of these “prestigious awards” don’t hold the interest of the child. No matter how many experts were involved in creating the educational toys, if they cannot capture the imagination of the child and keep them enthralled with the interaction with the toy or game, then it will end up being quite useless and a waste of money.
Most of the time you will find that the award winning toys and games are more expensive than the average, everyday educational toys for your toddler. Parents have often been frustrated after spending a lot of money on such touted games and then watched in dismay as their child quickly lost interest and went back to playing with a simple set of blocks. In such cases, the clear conclusion is that sometimes the best toddler toys are the ones they will use and enjoy the most.
This means that some of the most popular toys for toddlers have already been proven safe for the child to play with and effective in terms of being fun enough to keep them entertained and engaged. In general, these time-proven toys for children are far less expensive than the newest and latest award winning toys and you won’t have to stand in line or fight over the hottest toy of the day.
What are some of these favorite, classic toys for kids? You probably will recognize many of these educational toys and games from your own childhood and they include things such as the classic stacking rings, wooden trucks and cars, colorful building blocks, shape sorters, bright and bouncy balls, water toys, coloring books, puzzles with big pieces and large, cheerful pictures, and simple, basic and fun traditional toys that provide hours and hours of amusement, pleasure and development at the same time.
Toddlers simply love to play and interact with items that do something in response to their actions. Busy boxes are simple but a wonderful form of interactive educational games that let children get the feel for pushing, pulling and rotating various sizes and shapes of knobs, levers and buttons. And, if you can handle the noise, one of the all-time favorite toys for children is the popper toy that they can drag behind then or push in front of them, sometimes for hours on end.
When shopping for toddler toys, try to get the type that can be utilized in more than one way and that will last for several years of childhood, and can even be passed along to younger siblings. Also, the learning toys that encourage them to play with other children will help all of them develop their social and sharing skills as they play.

MRSA Staph Infection a Growing Problem in Schools
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 by wwwThe new school year is now upon us, and with it comes concerns over our kids health and safety. With the large number of cases of %KEWYORD1% reported in schools last year, extra precautions are needed. Have you taught your kids the extra precautions about hygiene and contact with other children that they need to know?
Was the large number of reported cases of CA-MRSA in our schools last year a result of the news about MRSA being widely reported for the first time? While that is probably a large part of it, there is no doubt that the threat is growing. Many factors come into play, and only spell more reasons for concern in the future.
Schools provide the perfect conditions for the growth of MRSA staph. With large numbers of children grouped together in close quarters, any sort of virus or bacteria is going to be spread. Because kids are kids, they are going to get cuts and scrapes and share germs without thinking about the consequences. But with related diseases like C diff coming to the forefront, our work is cut out for us.
Whatever you do, make sure your kids are eating a healthy diet and getting a good nights sleep. They should also carry a small container of hand sanitizer and use it frequently.

Combating Diseases Of Children
Friday, September 19th, 2008 by wwwThe especial province of the mother is the prevention of disease, not its cure. When disease attacks the child, the mother has then a part to perform, which it is especially important during the epochs of infancy and childhood should be done well. I refer to those duties which constitute the maternal part of the management of disease.
COMBATING DISEASES OF CHILDREN
Medical treatment, for its successful issue, is greatly dependent upon a careful, pains-taking, and judicious maternal superintendence. No medical treatment can avail at any time, if directions be only partially carried out, or be negligently attended to; and will most assuredly fail altogether, if counteracted by the erroneous prejudices of ignorant attendants. But to the affections of infancy and childhood, this remark applies with great force; since, at this period, disease is generally so sudden in its assaults, and rapid in its progress, that unless the measures prescribed are rigidly and promptly administered, their exhibition is soon rendered altogether fruitless.
The amount of suffering, too, may be greatly lessened by the thoughtful and discerning attentions of the mother. The wants and necessities of the young child must be anticipated; the fretfulness produced by disease, soothed by kind and affectionate persuasion; and the possibility of the sick and sensitive child being exposed to harsh and ungentle conduct, carefully provided against.
KIDS and CHILDREN
Again, not only is a firm and strict compliance with medical directions in the administration of remedies, of regimen, and general measures, necessary, but an unbiased, faithful, and full report of symptoms to the physician, when he visits his little patient, is of the first importance. An ignorant servant or nurse, unless great caution be exercised by the medical attendant, may, by an unintentional but erroneous report of symptoms, produce a very wrong impression upon his mind, as to the actual state of the disease. His judgment may, as a consequence, be biased in a wrong direction, and the result prove seriously injurious to the welldoing of the patient. The medical man cannot sit hour after hour watching symptoms; hence the great importance of their being faithfully reported. This can alone be done by the mother, or some person equally competent.
There are other weighty considerations which might be adduced here, proving how much depends upon efficient maternal management in the time of sickness; but they will be severally dwelt upon, when the diseases with which they are more particularly connected are spoken of.

Holiday Shopping: Obstacles to Prepare For When Shopping for the Kids On Your List
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 by wwwWe have all seen those cheerful smiling faces in the sea of shoppers who actually seem to be enjoying themselves. Those laughing tones emitted from cheerful mouths seem to ring loud over the stressed crush of rushing shoppers and mock at your own panicked and harried mental state. Feeling a most scrooge-like surge of frustration you question what their secret is. To alleviate yourself as you rush on you conclude the holiday mountain of extra work has left them touched in the head.
They couldn’t possibly have a list as long as yours filled with every ‘it’ item ranging from infant and toddler to picky teen. There is no way they spent the last three days running like a rabid person from every toy store in the greater metropolitan area narrowly dodging fist fights to win the coveted cabbage patch doll or sit and stand stroller or the coup de grace, a dancing Elmo.
This is not true. These happy consumers have learned from their mistakes and the mistakes of others to become buying divas. This allows for great enjoyment of gift shopping. Buying favors , creating the magic of childhood that will live in your toddler’s memory for a lifetime should be fun . These consumers have cracked the code; the holiday cues, crowds and nervous energy are all part of the game to them.
When I tried that very first time into the post Thanksgiving madhouse seeking a kids pedal car, pedal plane or a tricycle for my then 3-year old, I had no idea what I was doing. I had a vague idea of what I wanted: the Radio Flyer Wagons. But I had not planned properly and the store was out of that item. This is where most of us meet our downfall: lack of preparation. Take it from me, even the most timid shopper can learn to survive and even thrive in the high-energy crowds a good sale produces.
Successful holiday shoppers have several things in common. They have a checklist. They know whom they are shopping for, what they will be purchasing, how much it costs and where to purchase it. They have tackled the power of both the internet and holiday circulars so they know they are getting a good deal on a present that will be received with squeals and squawks of pure childhood happiness. In their minds they can see their kids waking and opening that beautiful new baby doll and crib. You can’t help but smile and have a good time when you know the fruits of your hard work will be so fabulous.
Even with careful planning, buying nirvana can be disrupted by elements beyond your control. Commodity shortages, overtime at work or lack of funds affect buying divas just the same as any other shopper. What a true holiday shopping diva has on her side is a plan B.
When holiday shopping divas confront a roadblock on their way to the plush toy of her child’s sugarplum dreams, she knows an alternative route to get what she wants . If you are wanting to avoid the rat race of the department stores , you can enjoy free shipping on all your online holiday shopping at Simply Unique Baby Gifts.

Building toys are building brains
Saturday, September 13th, 2008 by wwwBuilding toys are a great way for children to learn valuable skill sets in a manner that encourages them to be creative and to push the limits of what they know they can do. Toys like these are such powerful learning tools in part because kids do not even realize that they are learning as they play with their building toys.
These toys include timeless building games like the iconic children’s train set, the set of Lincoln logs that seemingly everyone has, those building blocks of various shapes and sizes that we remember playing with when we were growing up. Whatever the toy may be, any kind of building toy is a good toy for kids who are eager to learn and be creative.
