Tiffany Lamps
Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by wwwIridescent stained glass…beautiful designs…deep, rich colors…these are some of the ways to describe the ever popular Tiffany lamps that bring unique beauty into our homes. These lamps have had their very own style through the seventies and are still today considered fashionable by many people. These brightly colored lamps give a room a surprise burst of color in a room when they are placed beside a bed, on a wall, or in a dining room.
Created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, these table lamps can be used in any or every room of your home to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Tiffany loved the rich jewel colors of blood red and blues found in the Byzantium mosaics. He was able to find a way of adding the color to his glass (so it was actually in the glass) instead of having to paint it on at the end. He began by using discarded glass pieces from stained glass panels to create unique designs. The Tiffany lampshades were then created by fitting hand cut glass pieces into copper foil enclosures. Since copper is very strong, he was able to design unusual and beautiful shades for his lamps.
tiffany table lamps are excellent for lighting up an entire room. Many sizes and styles of these lamps are available for the bedside table, desks, and buffets. Wall sconces with these unique colors and designs are also available for a different look in an entryway or to decorate a half bath by placing on one either side of the mirror. There are even styles that give ample light above your billiard table and look classy at the same time. Tiffany floor lamps are perfect for those spaces that are smaller, but are in need of a good light source. The chandeliers are beautiful in a formal dining room, but can also look attractive in a simpler dining area with a rustic decor. Wisteria blossoms, lily designs, the sun and moon, dragonflies and peacock feathers are designs often found in dale tiffany lamps and can be matched to country décor or a more elegant home design. During the daylight hours, these pretty lamps serve as an ornamental piece, and then at night it can add warmth and a bit of magic to your home. At night, these lamps can reflect diamond shaped or coin shaped designs against your wall, adding a coziness to the room. Reading by these styles of lamps is wonderful since they have a bright, yet soft, light, which is easier on the eyes. Many Tiffany lamps have stylish bases that are curved like a swan’s neck or remind you of a flower stem. Simpler lamp bases are often made with a mahogany bronze finish to further compliment the hues of greens, plum violet, merlot, and gold in many of the tiffany lampshades. Wrought iron is another stunning accent to some Tiffany lamps.
These colorful and distinctive lamps can be placed in a kitchen, a recreation room, a dining room, a bedroom, a living room, a finished basement or even a bathroom and each area will appear more inviting. Many people say they like these unique lamps because add a touch of elegance and class to their homes’ décor and can match or compliment almost any color in their home.

More Info On Bathroom Remodeling Ideas
Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by wwwHome Bathroom Remodeling Tips and Tricks
These home bathroom remodeling tips and tricks are to help you speed up your remodeling process. This is directed more to the “Do-it-yourself” people out there who had rather do their own repair jobs, rather than using a licensed contractor.
I will give you some tips about repairing small jobs in the bathroom and then I will cover some tips to make your bathroom look larger than it usually is (this area is the one that many people want to know about).
No matter what size job that you need to repair, you should always inspect the area around the bad area. Write down everything that you think you will need to do to the area, including cleaning the surface, what is involved in the process, make a list of what types of tools you will need to use, and what materials, you think that you will need. This is just a reminder that you can go over and change if you need to. It has been my experience that if I didn’t write it down, I would always forget something at the Home Improvement Store and I would end up making an extra trip, which cost time.
Always check things out on the internet to give you an idea of what is involved in the procedures you are going to do. The reason I say to check your computer first is that it is closer than having to drive to find out what you need to know, however that option is up to you. I find that when I just type in a sentence in the top search bar, and try to explain what it is that I want to do. It will give me a list of websites that I can scroll through, usually there will be a website that has some type of information, which is quite a big help. If you have any trouble, the employees at the Home Improvement Store are there to help you with any questions you may have.
Now many people ask me about how they can make their small bathroom look larger than what it is. I have had that same situation, so I take them into my bathroom and show them what I have done. The first thing is to paint the walls a pastel color, and add an extra mirror to reflect the light. Then I purchased a 3 shelf storage shelf that goes over the toilet. Then my sink was on one side of the wall and was just more or less a wash basin with a cabinet a around it, I remove the cabinet and built a wall to wall counter, underneath I installed a 3 shelf storage that was 12” wide, and I did this on both sides, in the middle I put 2 long shelves and maneuvered them around the sink drain and water lines. Then I installed doors on the outside of that. At the top of the sink I took the old mirror down and installed a multi-light mirror, which put out more light. In the bathtub/shower I installed a couple of corner shelves, one on each end, and then I put a couple of shelves 2 feet above the tub, and screwed some hooks into the wall to hang scrubies on.
I hope these few home bathroom remodeling tips and tricks have been a big help, and good luck with your bathroom remodeling.

Organize Your Kitchen: Winning Home Organizer Info
Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by wwwThe kitchen is the heart of the home. It is a gathering place, a special place. From your kitchen come sights, smells and sounds that signal the appetite. It is the most memorable place in your home.
Your kitchen might come complete with plenty of cabinets, cupboards and drawers, and some may not. Whatever your unique situation, it’s how you utilize the space you have and how you discover ways to add more storage solutions (as required) that makes a difference.
Use the drawets and cupboards in the kitchen to contain items that are grouped together.
For example, place your dishes in a cupboard that is either close to the eating table or close to the sink area. Food should be gathered with like-items together, and not spread out into different cabinets that contain unrelated items (or having the same type food item put in two places).
Place your coffee machine on a counter-top above a cabinet area. Place your coffee and tea items together nearby. Pots and pans can placed near the stove area.
To begin with, it might be best to empty out the cabinets, one section at a time, and rearrange the items back into cabinets that best suit “the flow” of how you work in your kitchen. Take your time as this requires some thought.
When you decide you organize you will have a place for everything and everything in its place. To achieve this you will require organizing “tools” in which to store items. You can visit department stores or browse through catalogs for ideas on what to get.
Get away from cluttering the counters with too many appliances. If you use the appliance often enough, keep it out. If not, store it away where it cannot be seen. Think about building a shelf above the counter to hold appliances. This will free up your counter space to work on.
Create a location in your kitchen to keep 1) a message center and/or paper-related items, like a note pad and pens near the phone, 2) cookbooks and recipe boxes, 3) a mail center…
Organize your refrigerator in the same way as you would any other cabinet: group like-items together. Try to avoid keeping leftover foods in containers that sit in the back of the shelves, as they often go bad and smell up your fridge. It’s a good idea to clean out the refrigerator weekly to be rid of foods that have “expired.”
Take advantage of these few tips. You will enjoy your kitchen that much more.

Antique Wall Coat Hooks
Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by wwwIn the 20th Century, the housesstarted filling with wardrobes, the sliding door kind, or the walk in kind. But until then, clothes used to b stashed away in chests, drawers, hung on several kinds of coat hooks and racks of which the hat rack was a patent.
So if you want to get something utilitarian for your house which decorative and has a charm of its own as well, maybe it is the antique hat rack you should try.
This is a good idea especially for those of you who have rebuilt old homes and moved in. These houses won’t have closets near the door where you can concealed your coats away, so getting one of the coat hooks is a good idea. This will especially add to the old, grand touch if the coat stand is rebuilt moreover, such old houses have more space to accommodate such elaborate things unlike today’s modern matchbox sized apartments.
What you have in mind for your house is very important for buying a wall mount coat rack because there are hundreds of varieties to choose from. There are especially some grand ones found in plantation homes that serve as an elaborate sitting and storing equipment along with being a foot resting, mirror keeping, decorating piece. But these as mentioned before are too big for modern day homes, hence can end up being cumbersome.
The other choice is the Victorian styled coat hooks, which were usually like a lamp shade around which hooks have been put to hang coats. They also have extra storage facilities like the umbrella stand at the foot where one can leave their umbrellas to dry. But these often cam with the handicap of tipping over, if not crafted nicely. So check for construction before buying one. Moreover, do notice if there is proper drainage facilities in the umbrella rack as lack of it will lead to the wood rotting away and damaging your precious hat rack.
So, go ahead and get that wall coat rack you have always desired. Not only do these come in various forms but can be easily fit into your house. But just in case you cannot find the exact one you had in mind, go to the nearest artisan, give the design, and ask him to replicate it for you. In fact, there are certain craftsmen who specialize in recreating antic stuff. So go to them and get your dream coat stand made. Not only will they be convenient to the users but they will add the old world charm, the class and grace of the bygone eras you so like to watch in the films.

Easy To Reduce Reuse Recycle Most Of Your Household Waste
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by wwwDo you know the three “R’s” of waste products? Reduce reuse recycle should be a mantra your household lives by on a daily basis. They are not hard to learn. These days, even elementary school children are taught about the necessity of doing something more constructive with the billions of pounds of garbage that is generated daily in every community across the globe. Do your part and provide a good example for your children and others with reduce reuse recycle your household waste.
reduce reuse recycle
The first “R” in the three refers to reducing. This means to reduce the amount of garbage you generate. Try to buy items that are going to last longer so you do not have to buy them as often. Sure, there will be some items that do not have a long shelf life but you can still try to find those items that do. Some packaging contains harsher chemicals than others. It may cost you a dollar or two more but try to go with items that have less packaging.
Next up in the “reduce reuse recycle” idiom is reusing. Those plastic milk jugs, once rinsed and cleaned, can be reused in a multitude of ways. People make hanging flower pots from them or reuse them as plastic containers for water, juices and teas. Kids love using old milk jugs for art projects. [spin]Anything you can do to reuse packaging material will be a positive step in the right direction. |On a municipal level, reusing also occurs when recyclables are turned into different products, such as asphalt for paving roads or new notebooks. |Do not forget about the great art projects that can be made using an old plastic milk jug! Kids can be entertained for hours.
recycling bins
The final “R” relates to recycling. This means utilizing a recycling program from your sanitation department or local environmental services. You can ask them what materials are accepted locally and then get the appropriate garbage recycling containers into which you can place that material for pick-up.
Plastics go into one container. Paper goes into another container and glass goes into a separate container. Then all three, along with garbage that cannot be recycled, is picked up by your local sanitation or recycled materials program. As well, you can recycle your food waste products by starting a compost heap.
recycling plant
By using the mantra “reduce reuse recycle” you can do your part to help make sure that the environment stays clean. You will be amazed at how easy the whole process is once you get used to tossing those items into their specific bins. For more information on recycling you can visit the Environmental Protection Agency’s website at www.epa.org. You can do your part.

Wood Bathroom Vanities are Beautiful, but Challenging
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by wwwWood bathroom vanities pose a number of unique challenges to the vanity owner. While these exquisite pieces of functional bathroom decor are often beautiful and interesting, they are also fairly high maintenance and are particularly susceptible to water damage. To take care of your wooden bathroom vanity, make sure that it is protected with a strong anti-moisture wood sealant, and ensure that this seal is replaced every few years. Also, while your vanity may be sealed, it’s still a good idea to make sure water never sits on the countertop for too long. A few drops of water, if allowed to stand on your countertop for a few hours, may damage your vanity. And when you go to clean your vanity, make sure you use wood-friendly agents, especially natural cleaners. For more info, please check out this article!

Obtaining Essential Tools For Home Upgrade Projects
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by wwwIf you’re a homeowner, you’ve probably taken on some kind of home improvement project, using various tools to accomplish the tasks. Even a simple chore like hanging a picture on the wall requires the basics of a hammer and nail.
However, if you’re planning to take on larger scale renovations, you’ll find you need advanced tools to get the job done well and quickly. Remember, male or female, any task is surmountable with the right tools and know-how.
Keep reading to learn about some of the basic tools you’ll need for any home improvement project as well some safety advice.
1. Safety Gear
Your most important tools will always be your safety gear. First and foremost, every home handyman (or woman) should have a good pair of safety goggles to protect the eyes from wayward splinters, nails and dust.
If you’re working with power tools, invest in a pair of earmuffs to protect your ears from the damage caused by loud noises and the incessant whine of high-powered machines. A pair of gloves can protect your hands from minor scratches and cuts.
Finally, if you’re working at any point above one story, always wear a safety harness. It may be uncomfortable, but a safety harness will break a fall and can save your life.
2. Standard Tools
Standard tools include a hammer and a good screwdriver set. Hammers come in all shapes and sizes, but the best hammer is one with a good grip of a standard size. If you’re going to be pounding in a lot of nails, consider investing in a nail gun.
A screwdriver set allows you to tighten and loosen different types of screws. The most common screw types are the Phillips (the cross), the slotted screw, the Robertson (the square) and the hex, a hexagonally shaped screw that’s tightened with a wrench. Have a screwdriver set on hand that can tackle each of these screws.
If you’re doing a lot of screw work, consider investing in a power drill. A power drill can tighten and loosen a screw in seconds and save you a lot of hand pain. Power drills come in cordless and corded models. For ease and mobility, most people prefer the cordless versions.
These simple tools are the basics that every homeowner should have in the tool box. If you’re planning to take on a more intensive home improvement project - the kind that requires more money and possibly financing - you’ll need to start looking into power saws, sanders and tile cutters. However, for now, start with the basics.
Keep your tools in a clean tool box and a space that is inaccessible to small children.

Sick and tired of a rusty old bathroom? Seriously considering a makeover? Looking for something more exciting, attractive, eye-catching? Want to show off a designer bathroom that will turn your friends green in envy? Remodeling your bathroom is cool, man. It’s just a few steps away, so read on and discover the easy steps that will revitalize your bathroom… make it a room you actually want to be in rather than just visit for ablutions and unmentionables!
As a homeowner, the first thing you’d want is a house with a sufficiently large, spacious and beautiful bathroom, because without it, any house is incomplete! It’s always hardest to figure out whether and when one needs to renovate the bathroom. It is obviously a good idea to remodel it, especially if your bathroom is showing signs of disintegration, and no-one would want a toilet that’s falling apart! So watch for signs your bathroom might be trying to point out to you but which you’re too blind to see: that it needs improvements and that all-important fresh coat of paint! You need a trained eye to look for those signs, and ways in which you can pick them out are given below.
Are you tired of your bathroom’s nineteenth century looks? Do you want to bring it into the twenty-first century? That means it’ll have to be really hep, stylish and tip-top! Well, in case you do, it’s one major sign that you and your bathroom have the same scatological intellectual level! After all, the bathroom is the most visited room in your whole house, and it has to look as pretty as the rest of it! What do you have to go through to make your bathroom look sparkling new? Makeover time! Well, why not go for a fresh coat of paint — the use of bright and eye-catching colors is recommended to enhance the atmosphere, so that it is both pleasing to the eye as well as soothing. You can also junk that old discolored sink and replace the taps, chamber pot and old fashioned accessories. After all the chance of a sweeping makeover comes once in a lifetime!
Safety in your personal escape chamber is an essential factor all and sundry should take into account. After all, mildew and mold not only look icky but can be a serious hazard too if you slip on them and go for a six!. Loose tiles are also equally dangerous and can lead to serious injuries, fractures, dislocations and what not. For goodness’ sake, don’t for a moment imagine I’m being alarmist because such mishaps do happen.
Are you, by any chance, planning to sell your house? Take this easy tip: there’s nothing that works better to raise the value of your house than to do up your bathroom! Well, go to your realty agent and check out whether or not a property with a renovated bathroom is what buyers are lining up for. Yes, that one little room makes all the difference.

Why A New Toilet Should Genuinely Save Your Money
Sunday, September 28th, 2008 by wwwWe’re living in tough economic times. As of this writing, the US economy is facing a crisis, the likes of which we may not have seen since the Great Depression.
Energy issues are constantly in the news, as most of us look for tips on energy savings, some of which might include a replacement furnace, HVAC, ways to recycle water, heaters, energy efficient appliances, and more. But how about making one of the most mundane units in your home more efficient as well - your toilets?
No, you don’t have to put a brick in your toilet tank or install any flushing rules in your house, but yes, you can still save money with your toilet usage.
Did you know that the average old-model toilet uses about 5 gallons of water per flush? With 4 people flushing 5 times a day, that’s 100 gallons of water sent literally down the toilet! Keep reading for answers to common questions on how you can actually save money while sitting on the toilet.
Why should I buy a water-efficient toilet?
The average household can save approximately $100 a year on their utility bills. You’ll also be helping to conserve thousands of gallons of water and do your part for the earth. Remember, toilets are the largest single users of water inside most homes. For typical homeowners, replacing a toilet can be the single most significant money-saving efficiency action they do.
How much does a water-efficient toilet differ from a regular toilet? Will I still get the same flush?
Water-efficient toilets work by using an efficient bowl design and actually increasing the flushing velocity. While older high-consumption toilets use extra water volume to push out waste, the water-efficient toilet uses better design.
Most low-volume toilets flush just as well as older toilets and don’t require double flushing. Remember, water-efficient toilets have to meet the same cleaning and performance standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
How much will a new water-efficient toilet cost?
A standard water-efficient, gravity-design toilet can range from as low as $40 all the way up to several hundred dollars, with most models averaging between $100 and $200.
However, the cost of the toilet will be easily repaid over time in lower water and utility bills. So don’t be overly cautious about spending a few more dollars on a high quality toilet since the longer-term payback will be substantial.
What should I look for when buying a water-efficient toilet?
Like you would with any home purchase, look online for product reviews, ask for advice at the store and be an informed consumer. Remember, a higher price doesn’t always indicate a better product. While all toilets have to pass certain performance tests, the quality can vary significantly and so can the test scores.
Ask your retailer to tell you what toilets scored highest on the ANSI flush tests. A good retailer should have that information readily available. If not, you should be able to locate the information online.
Do I need to install any special modifications to put in a water efficient toilet?
Most water-efficient toilets are installed just like an older toilet. With very few exceptions, they’re roughed in the same way and connected to the plumbing the same way. You simply need the patience to set it properly and ensure that water connections are tight to prevent leaks.
Do I still need to put a brick in the tank to save money?
No, the days of plopping a brink inside a toilet tank are over. Because water-efficient toilets are optimized for maximum efficiency, restricting their full flow can actually cause performance problems rather than help.
