Lincoln City Oregon for Kite Flying

Lincoln City is one of the best places to fly kites in North America. It celebrates with three kite festivals each year, two outdoors and one indoors. Before going public with his show in 1994, he flew in all weather conditions; he tangled lines, ripped sails, and broke many kite frames. Assisted by his wife Lisa, Carl is one of just three people in North America and one of a handful of people in the world who can fly three dual line kites simultaneously.

If you are an expert, you will welcome with open arms the clean air that rolls in from the Pacific Ocean. If a novice, you’re definitely going to notice a difference in wind conditions. During the outdoor kite festivals in Lincoln City, there are competitions, Japanese flying battles, workshops, and demonstrations. The first Lincoln City indoor kite festival was hosted in 2004. It was helded during the winter months. This makes kite flying on the Oregon Coast a year-round activity. No wind exists and the gracefulness of an indoor kite is almost like watching a ballet or professional ice skating.

Tips For The Smooth Installation Of Hardwood Flooring

When getting ready to install hardwood flooring, it’s important to remember that the appropriate method for installing hardwood flooring will depend on the type of flooring you are about to install. Solid hardwood can be purchased as either planks, strips, or parquet. An alternative to solid hardwood is laminate flooring which is usually installed differently than hardwood.

Whether you purchase laminate flooring or solid hardwood, the installation instructions should be easily found on the flooring packaging. Following these instructions, laminate floors are normally quite easy to install. Laminate flooring should be kept in it’s packaging until your ready to install it. Solid hardwood, on the other hand, should be removed from it’s packaging beforehand so it can adjust to the humidity level in the room it will be installed in before it’s installed.

With some careful planning, your flooring installation endeavors should be successful. Make sure to pay attention to the details since it’s the little things that can make all the difference. The floor surface that you are installing hardwood or laminate on must be carefully cleaned to remove any dirt or dust. At a minimum the foundation should be swept and vacuumed.

You should also be certain that you have measured and correctly recorded the amount of flooring you will need. A good rule of thumb is to measure three times to be sure (it is always better to err on the side of caution). You can generally bring your measurements into the store and let the staff figure the exact flooring materials that will be required. This is particularly handy if you aren’t all that good with numbers.

Glueless laminate flooring is typically very easy to install, which makes it a popular choice. This type of flooring doesn’t require glue or nails and has a kind of tongue and groove design which allows the pieces to pop into place.

Before installation your new flooring, check out how the light enters the room. The planks should be installed towards your hallway lighting and should always be installed lengthwise.

Laminate flooring instructions provide all the information you’ll need including how to lay the first plank against the wall and how spacers should be placed if they are required. For hardwood installation, always start in a corner using a full plank at the start of the first row. A spacer should also be used to keep a half inch gap between the plank and the wall.

With all of these things to remember, the most important is to follow the instructions provided with the flooring materials you purchase. Each type of flooring will have different requirements and each manufacturer may have slightly different advice. The instructions they provide are meant to make your installation the easiest it can be.

Home-Based Businesses Can Be Profitable and Fun

If you’re stuck in a cubicle, you’ve likely thought about creating your own home-based business. Imagine the luxury of spending your day doing whatever you want. Your schedule is yours, with no pointy-haired bosses giving you orders.

But the idea of a home-based business will be far too frightening for most people to consider. Ann Rae was not amongst the fearful, though.

Part of the dilemma you might face is the question of what to do. For Ann, as it should be with you, it’s a matter of understanding both what you love doing and your skill set.

As a trained artist, Ann had a natural love for art and the skills to create beautiful paintings. But Ann knew she didn’t want to be a starving artist. The idea of selling art to the home-based business seemed like a great idea.

Then, like Ann, you’ll want to see your new home-based business as a business first, and something you love second.

Ann had worked at a variety of jobs in software, investment and fundraising until an encounter with a breast cancer patient made her realize that life is too short to spend it doing things she didn’t like.

“I realized, ‘I hate my life, I’m completely miserable, I want to paint,’ ” said Rea.

Ann drafted a 30-page business plan outlining how to make a living from her art. This is exactly what you should do as your second step (after getting clear on the nature of your business). Since Ann Rea loved painting landscapes. And she realized that she lived within driving distance of some very marketable landscapes — California vineyards — she felt he’d found the perfect niche market for a home-based business.

So she came up with a strategy of contracting with wineries to do oil paintings of their vineyards, sell them prints and postcards of her work, and then sell the originals to wine lovers through shows and receptions at tasting rooms.

“My assumption was that the wine lover is a collecting personality, and likely to collect art,” Ann Rea said. “And I don’t really care if I’m painting vineyards or some other scene. I’m painting the ambient light and color.”

Ann Rea started painting full time two years ago. She sought free consulting from the San Francisco Small Business Development Center to learn bookkeeping and sales negotiation, and to help set long-term financial goals.

She now has seven winery clients, including Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves and E. & J. Gallo Winery. She is negotiating to publish a book of her vineyard paintings, and she expects to reach 150 percent of her sales goal of $100,000 for the year.

Success with a home-based business often depends on your creativity and perseverance with your marketing and business knowledge. It’s not just about creating a better widget, or in Ann Rea’s case, fine art.

Ann Rea’s business approach was the best I’ve seen from the art world. Even with the best plan, your first year will often be stressful. It’s very scary, but in the end if you stick with it, you’ll get to do what you want, when you want. This is one of the best parts of having a home-based business.

Why would you ever go back to a cubicle when you can be doing what you love and making good money in the process? A home-based business can be both profitable and rewarding, but you’ve still got to make it a business.

Rea’s first year as a full-time painter was marked by constant anxiety, but she has moved past that. “It was very scary,” she said. “But it’s the best. I finally get to do what I love. I had chosen to abandon art, chosen to believe it was unpractical and I couldn’t do it. Now I would rather stick a dull needle in my eye than go back to a cubicle.
