A better War of the Worlds?

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

After watching the movie War of the Worlds staring Tom Cruise last weekend I was inspired to do some research on the original H.G. Wells novel. I almost bought a copy of the book, I did read it once as a child, but I hesitated. Instead I downloaded The War of The Worlds BBC broadcast based on the novel by H.G. Wells as an audiobook off of the Internet.

It was very easy to do. I simply paid with my visa card and was able to do an instant download. I did not have to wait for CD’s to come in the mail. After downloading the audiobook I burnt it to discs so that I could listen to it in my car as I drive.

I was also happy to see that doing an instant download of the audiobook was much cheaper then the same versions of the audiobook on CD. It really is a much better deal to download the file and burn it to disc your self then to have to pay someone else to do the same thing.

Another great feature is that I will always be able to download the audiobook again for free at any time. This is perfect if you are like me and are prone to scratching your cd’s.

I have to say I was thrilled with the quality of the recording of the audiobook. The audiobooks is from the BBC Classic Sci-Fi Radio and has a run time of two hours and fifty minutes.

One of the things that I enjoyed the most of listening to War of the Worlds on audiobook compared to the movie is how much eerier it was. Watching the movie was good, don’t get me wrong, but I must say that I enjoyed it as an audiobook more. The movie was real eye candy. But the audiobook invokes your imagination. The sound effects being much simpler in the audiobook, but it felt more real. It really made me feel like I was there.

Can An Online Masters Degree Actually Help You To Achieve Your Goals?

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

Do you want an accredited online masters degree? There is much mis-information regarding online master degrees, and as a result people looking to complete their education online often want to make sure that an accredited institution is offering the degree along with all supporting material. With online learning being an easier way to manage work with education, more and more people are turning to accredited online masters degrees to help them acquire ‘higher qualifications’.

How can you apply and get approved for an accredited online master degree? You need to have a bachelor degree or equivalent in the field that you are applying for. Life experiences do not count and the universities or colleges that take that into consideration should not be on your ‘trusted’ list as they may not be accredited. Higher education is generally expensive even with online degrees and you would not want to take a risk on a university or college that was not reliable. Stick to accredited master degrees on the web.

Benefits of an Online Master Degree Program

With an online degree you set your own pace; you are blessed with flexible study hours with no time spent on commuting and with the ability to juggle the hours around in order to make time for work. In many areas of work a masters degree is merely the “official stamp” required to advance further in an organization; your work experience may be great but without a masters degree it can be much more difficult to go for that bigger promotion.

It used to be that a degree on the net was not regarded as highly as a degree taken at a regular university. However, in recent years accredited universities have gone to great lengths to improve their “online brand” - as a result accredited online degrees, especially accredited online master degrees have become very popular with working young adults who want to increase their income but do not have the luxury of quitting work and taking up studying again.

Taking advantage of accredited master degree programs on the internet means that you will have to manage your time more effectively than ever. You would have to make sure that you are capable to manage both your professional and academic lives along with maintaining some stability in your personal life.

If you have family responsibilities taking up an online education program is a great choice. However, you should also be careful of how you allocate your time and where your priorities lie.

Do not have any illusions; getting an accredited masters degree even online - or especially online - is hard work these days.If anyone advertises that it is not then more than likely the true story are not being told. Whenever you make the decision to acquire a masters degree on the web please ensure that you are with an accredited university (make sure you call up the proper government office to check on the university’s credentials).

College; Your Ticket To A Better Career

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

There exists a relationship between college and career. The process of choosing a college is often difficult if you don’t have any idea of what you want to do with your life. If you aren’t sure what you want to major in when you take off toward a college or university, then consider some of the following before you ask your parents to fork over the cash for school.

o Is the student life on campus something you find interesting?

o What college or university seems to offer the majors you think you will be interested in?

o What activities do you enjoy and does the school you consider to attend offer those activities?

o Make a list of pros and cons of the schools you would consider to attend.

o Do you know anyone who has attended the schools you are interested in attending and if so, do you think they would be interested in showing you around and/or answer some questions if they are still on campus?

o Which college is the most expensive and which one is the least expensive?

o Which schools do you really like and is it in a city where you might remain after graduation?

o What is the outcome you want from your college education?

o What do your parents say about your possible school choices?

o Which school is the closest to your home?

Something to be aware of when trying to decide on an appropriate is the cost factor. If you are undetermined on what you want your major to be then you might be doing your parents a great favor by attending a community college until you decide.

Although it’s highly advisable to choose where you want to go to college and stay there for the entire four years, if you are undecided on a major, you can usually get your core class requirements out of the way at a local community college. However, if you choose to do this, then you may want to approach the school where you will end up and ask about transferring so that you will be knowledgeable about the courses which will transfer to your intended college.

Choosing a is never an easy task and if you aren’t sure what you really want to do then try to be considerate of your parents and either pay your own way until you decide or choose a local college. You could also consider local community colleges. These are about 25% of the cost of larger colleges and private colleges and universities are mostly too expensive to expect your parents to pay for if you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up.

Part of the maturing process is learning how to make up your mind and following through on intelligent decisions. If you aren’t capable to do this yet then decide where you want to go to school until you are ready to make a mature and conscious decision regarding your future.

A majority of the universities and colleges also offer some superior career planning services. If you are not sure what direction you need to pursue, then consider to take advantage of these options for planning your future. You should take your time to ask questions and seek answers about chosen fields you are considering. Go online and find career path guidelines and assistance as well as through the occupational handbook which can give you an idea of careers which college students are pursuing because of the upcoming anticipated demand in the labor market.

See How Easily You Can Repair Your Car

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

Can you do an auto repair? A vehicle might stall for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it is not igniting gas in the cylinders. This requires immediately auto repair. The two main reasons for this are: a problem in the fuel system or a problem in the electrical system. Either there isn’t gas to ignite, or it lacks the electrical charge to ignite it.

If you have access to it, consider using diagnostic software before you start the car repair. Automobiles from the mid-nineties or later are to a high degree computer controlled, and it will be hard for you to make any adjustments. If you want to avoid taking it into a shop or a garage get such software and keep it in your car together with your laptop. One thing you should try, is to drive your motorcar up and down a steep hill. If this causes it to stall, it might be an indication of a clogged fuel filter. Check this out, and replace it if necessary. This is pretty cheap and quite easy to do.

Another thing to look for is if your car is idles rough and/or stalls when at idling. If your auto has a distributor, you may need to adjust the timing. With the right tools and know how, this is an easy and free task. If your car has a distributor, you might consider changing the cap, rotor, wires and plugs. This is effectively a tune up and can usually be done even by a novice to vehicle fixing and takes no more than a couple of hours with the right tools. Don’t attempt any of these fixes while the car is running - that can be dangerous! It seems counterintuitive but even the wires and distributor decay over time and transmit less electricity. This tune up may solve your stalling problem — even if not, your car should run better and get better mileage.

If your diesels when you turn off the ignition, it often signals the need to replace the spark plugs. Dieseling describes the situation where you turn off the key yet the car continues to run for a few seconds or longer, eventually sputtering to a stop.

Fortunately, this usually does not signal a major repair to your vehicle and it can generally be fixed through some relatively minor adjustments or repairs.

Is Refinancing Really Necessary?

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

Are you among the many people who consider refinancing? If this is the case you should stop and think one more time. You may need to refinance, you may want to refinance, but why? What many poeple do is finding something they want. When they find out that they have a little equity in their home, they often rush right away to take out the equity for something frivolous which they could have later if they started to save now for it. The “have to get it now” syndrome is pretty common today and even before you know it, another refinance is in the works.

If you are thinking of refinance loan, then do it for whatever reasons that are good for you. The best reasons in the world to refinance is actually for obtaining a much lower interest rate or to lower your monthly house payments. It’s not vice to refinance to get the equity and go on a trip to Las Vegas to place a thirty thousand dollar wager on red or black. If you have decided to refinance, then make sure it is for a legitimate reason otherwise you spend valuable time and money refinancing one of the most secure investments you have for your future. Now, why would you want to do that anyway?

Like I said above, the only time should have any appeal to you is when it is going to save you money on house payments each month and when it is smart business to refinance your home mortgage for future benefit. Then, you still need to reflect on the fees involved in order to refinance. Remember, the banks want to make money off of you every time they see you in front of one of their loan officers, so carefully investigate what those fees are before you commit to a refinance.

Refinancing may be smart business for you. In many cases however, people who refinance are not concerned with smart business. My advice is: stay away from the bank looking to refinance a note which is already exactly what you need.

The Need For Alcohol Treatment Centers Doesn’t Seem To Decrease

Monday, February 26th, 2007 by www

The Need For alcohol treatment Centers Doesn’t Seem To Decrease

The need for alcoholism treatment centers is still urgent. People all over the world have become addicted to alcohol and some of them cannot live their everydayy life without drinking. This addiction can be so strong that addicts are willing to spend whatever they have earned in buying alcoholic drinks.

The centers located in the different cities come to the rescue for people like these. If you know that some member of your family or maybe a friend has become addicted to alcohol then you can very well approach these centers as a way to cure that person’s alcohol disease as well as recover them from their addiction.

Apart from alcohol many people with addiction problems are addicted to drugs, especially persons who are in their teens. In many cases, the best option for them are to be treated in the drug and alcohol treatment facility that is available near their home. To get detailed information of the centers in your locality you can easily search the internet using a good search engine. There are online directories available as well, which give you information on the different treatment centers available in your locality.

The treatment centers for alcohol addiction have a definite treatment plan that is based on the individual person and it also depends on the level of addiction that is being treated. So each and every patient will have a different treatment plan and diet restriction. When alcohol addicted people are treated there may be withdrawal symptoms like sweating, shakiness, anxiety and nausea. Such symptoms are common during addiction treatments. The physician or therapist would be able to provide medications that keep these symptoms under control. After you undergo treatment for your alcohol problems in these centers you should be able to live a normal life just like other human beings.

Be aware though that care should be taken so that the patient or ex-addict is not tempted to take up his or her drinking again. Counseling sessions with adequate professionals are often conducted to restrict their urge to drink. The families of these people will in most cases need to cooperate to bring them back to normal.

Backyard Waterfall Design

Sunday, February 25th, 2007 by www

So you’ve decided to get a backyard waterfall. What’s next for you? People often think that a backyard waterfall design can stand on its own. They often believe that when they get a backyard waterfall design, it would be enough to beautify their whole backyard. However, you need to know the fact that a backyard waterfall design needs to have other elements added to it in order to truly bring out its beauty.

A backyard waterfall design is beautiful. Standing alone, however, it tends to look a bit out of place. After all, waterfalls aren’t really supposed to be in one’s backyard, right? Standing alone, a backyard waterfall design might just wreck the “balanced” look of your backyard. Here are some things you might do to improve your backyard waterfall design:

1) Consider location – sometimes, it isn’t really necessary to add other elements to your backyard waterfall design. Some people find that a change in location can be very effective. Try to find a great spot for your backyard waterfall design. This will definitely help you improve the look of your backyard as a whole. Don’t put it where it would seem out of place.

Some people make the mistake of putting the waterfall design in the middle of their backyard. That look definitely does not work. It just makes you seem like someone looking to boast about the backyard waterfall design. One of the main things that contribute to people’s awe of waterfalls is the feeling that they discover one of nature’s secret wonders. It wouldn’t do to have you shoving that backyard waterfall design on everyone’s faces.

2) Add plants – adding plants around the backyard waterfall design can help bring out the “natural” look of your backyard waterfall design. Water and plants just truly belong together, right? Adding a few ornamental plants to your backyard waterfall design will help you appreciate the beauty of nature better. Some people go to great lengths to have a realistic backyard waterfall design but forget that they need other elements to achieve that effect.

Some people may be put off by this since they may think that choosing the right plants to add to the setting would be hard. However, you need to realize the fact that help is always just a click away. You can get the information that you need from the internet. You only need to make the effort and you can get what you need.

3) Add fish – some people find that adding ornamental fish such as Japanese Koi to a backyard waterfall design helps in improving the overall look. Adding fish could help bring your backyard waterfall design. Watching the motions of the fish along with the flow of the water could also heighten your pleasure at watching the backyard waterfall design.

You should take note, however, that you need to provide a stable swimming space for your fish. Adding a small pond to your backyard waterfall design would be a good idea if you’re planning to put in some fish.

Improving your backyard waterfall design is all a matter of balance. You need to make sure that the elements you add do not overwhelm the waterfall. The elements to be added should complement the beauty of the creation. The waterfall, also, should not stand out alone.

These Five Essential Paid Online Survey Tips Will Help You Avoid The Survey Scrap Heap!

Saturday, February 24th, 2007 by www

Have you joined the paid online survey game yet? Many have and are generating useful extra income however, taking part in a paid online survey isn’t as cut and dried as it may sound. There are a number of factors you’ll need to consider before completing your initial survey.

Getting paid to take a survey may be hard to comprehend for a lot of people and you may be wondering why marketing companies fork out thousands and thousands of dollars for people’s opinions. It’s simple. Data collected can save a company a fortune in marketing revenue and product production. Paying for consumer opinion literally guarantees honest answers as opposed to free surveys where people will often rush a survey with false answers just to get it out of the way.

Here is a checklist of questions you should consider before joining a survey provider. Remember, not all providers are created equal with some unscrupulous operators sole motive being to gain people’s personal details.

Paid Online Survey Checklist

1. Be wary of application fees. In fact be wary of websites who ask for a fee to add your name to their data base.

2. Read carefully the terms and conditions and that your not signing over personal details.

3. Check the company’s contact details and if there are none, give it a miss. You’ll preferably want a phone contact number along with an email address.

4. Be clear about payment terms. Know exactly how much you are being paid and when. Avoid having to pay a percentage of your fees to the survey provider who in all probability is being well paid by the company which has requested the survey.

5. You need to be clear about disclosing personal information. If it looks or sounds suspicious then move on. Your details could be on sold to other companies with the result being an inbox full of spam.

6. You’ll want to clarify how many surveys you’ll receive each month and how payment will take place.

The above information is designed for inexperienced survey takers. A great place to get questions answered is via online forums. Those involved in forums are usually seasoned campaigners who have gone through a lot of trial and error. Just do a search online for survey forums. You will in all probability be required to join but there won’t be a fee involved.

Another good starting point is to concentrate on established marketing research companies such as Greenfield Survey Online. Once you have gained some experience in the paid online survey business you’ll be a lot more savvy about what to look for when you want to broaden your horizons.

An Essential Guide To The Best Home Theater System Set Up!

Saturday, February 24th, 2007 by www

Choosing the best home theater system can be a daunting prospect for the uninitiated. The idea of home theater is an appealing thought but do you know where to start?

Did you know home theater is basically made up of a television and DVD player. That’s the basic set-up. Taking it to the next step will involve a good speaker system, projection unit, chairs, wall memorabilia and even a projection screen. Starting to sound a little complicated isn’t it?

Setting up a best home theater system should be a gradual process. If you have the budget then you are in a great position to go out and get what you want from the outset. This article is aimed at those people with a budget and the ability to get set up reasonably quickly, provided you have an area designated for your new project.

Best Home Theater

Naturally, you’ll look at televisions firstly. Picture quality, color, sharpness and of course price. How will the television fit into the whole scheme of things? Will the area designated for your best home theater set up support a 32 inch screen or can it support something a little bigger, say in the 50 inch and over range?

You’ll be presented with various styles of TVs. Flat screen, LCD, Plasma or rear projection. The choice is vast. Do some comparison shopping before you decide and look out for major storewide sales. For those ready to buy, consider Panasonic’s range of plasmas. While they may be minus a couple of features they present excellent picture quality, which in the end is what it’s all about. It’s worth talking to a sales rep about them.

Speaker System

Your speaker set up is important. After all it’s home theater and you want the best sound. Like televisions, shopping for speakers can be a little daunting for the inexperienced. You could initially settle for a cheaper set of speakers for about $200 and still enjoy great sound or if the budget allows, look at the more expensive surround sound units for a $1000 or over such as the Denon S-301. For those with really expensive taste then it’s worth a look at the Bang and Olufsen range.

Dvd Player And Projector

Dvd players are an essential part of a home theater set up. Dvd’s come in all shapes and sizes today and choosing one to suit your needs should be a relatively easy process. Whether you choose just a play function unit or one with recording capabilities is entirely your decision but price may ultimately dictate your decision.

Projection units for those planning to establish their home theater systems over time may be put on the “back burner” until funds allow however, they will form the basis of any . Again, prices vary but for good quality you may be asked to part with any amount over $1500.

We mentioned comparison shopping earlier. That’s a good way to tackle your best home theater project. Electronics can vary significantly in price from one outlet to another as stock issues come into play and deals need to be done in a hurry.
